District Development

Creating a thriving multi-cultural business and entertainment center for the Upham's Corner community.

Our Strategy

At Main Street, we support development in the neighborhood. Development can include small business, residential, or quality of living projects. Below are three projects that have impacted the neighborhood substantially in the past 3 years. These projects have created: improved public transportation, traffic redesign, and affordable housing.

"The Upham's Corner Implementation process builds on goals established by the community. These are outlined in both Imagine Boston 2030 and the Upham's Corner Station Area Plan of the Fairmount Indigo Planning Initiative."

Upham's Corner Arts and Innovation District

"My hope is... that the Strand Theatre will be a sustainable place for future generations to enjoy themselves but not just in terms of fame by famous people. I also hope that the Strand could be a space for building local community... for students who want to sing but have no where else."

Community Vision Note

In March 2021, the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the site located at 555-559 Columbia Road. This proposal moves forward on the implementation of Imagine Boston 2030, and the creation of the Upham's Corner Arts and Innovation District. This RFP seeks a developer for the 15,000-square-foot site to deliver:
